Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
The scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) is a synthesis of research, teaching, and learning in higher education that aims to bring a scholarly lens to what happens in postsecondary learning environments. The Taylor Institute facilitates research in the scholarship of teaching and learning through a range of programs, initiatives, and grants.
The University of Calgary Teaching and Learning Grants program provides support to projects that integrate research evidence into teaching practice or generate new knowledge about teaching and learning. A total of $1 million is available annually. The Taylor Institute administers the grants program, and provides support with project development and applications.
Teaching & Learning Inquiry
Teaching & Learning Inquiry is the peer-reviewed journal of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL). Founded and co-edited by Taylor Institute Academic Director Nancy Chick, the journal is hosted by Libraries and Cultural Resources at the University of Calgary. All past issues are now freely available to all through open access.
The Taylor Institute organizes and hosts the annual University of Calgary Conference on Postsecondary Learning and Teaching. The conference offers an opportunity for faculty, students, academic librarians and staff at the University of Calgary and the wider academic community to share, critically examine and build on our collective knowledge of teaching and learning.
