Contemplative Pedagogy and Curriculum Practices

There is growing interdisciplinary interest across North American post-secondary institutions in contemplative teaching and learning practices. This workshop will present an array of examples of possible contemplative practices to engage learners and ourselves as teachers in bringing ever deeper mindfulness and attention to our inquiries and learning in the service of life. There will be time for discussion and questions, and a list of resources will be shared.

Jackie Seidel is an assistant professor in the Werklund School of Education. Her interests are in contemplative pedagogy, ecopedagogy, interpretive forms of research, and curriculum studies. She has recently published in 'The Journal of Contemplative Inquiry'. Her new book, co-authored with David Jardine, is "Ecological Pedagogy, Buddhist Pedagogy, Hermeneutic Pedagogy: Experiments in a Curriculum for Miracles" (Peter Lang, 2014).
