A flipped classroom flips the traditional homework vs. class time paradigm.  Lectures along with other resources and activities are moved online to focus class time on activities that allow instructors and students to work together with the course material. The flipped classroom enables the instructor to work with the students in the classroom in addition to engaging with them online.
