Teaching Online Program

The Teaching &Learning Centre is offering a teaching online program for instructors wanting to either get started, or enhance their online teaching. The Teaching Online Program (TOP) is designed to give participants the opportunity to learn practical skills and knowledge in both developing and teaching an online course.

TOP is a 4-week program taught entirely online. Participants spend the majority of the time working asynchronously, with 4 scheduled live synchronous events. Specific dates and times for the live synchronous events will be determined once the program begins. To complete the program and receive the TOP certificate, you can expect to spend about 10 hours per week on the program.

Participants work through the program as a cohort, learning about teaching online through participation in a variety of online activities. For example, participants contribute to and facilitate a discussion board, complete a survey, access content in a variety of formats, and create an assessment blueprint for their online course.

Participants work on one module per week. The modules focus on the following:

  1. Exploring online learning
  2. Online teaching and learning activities
  3. Online student assessment
  4. Planning your online course
