My childhood haunt: Canyon Meadows and Fish Creek Park

I just tried my hand at rolling a Memory Map using maps.google.com and Flickr. Seems like a pretty powerful way to document a childhood (or a vacation, or whatnot). It would be even cooler if you could link photos in Flickr to notes or locations on another image…

  1. This is a great idea! Too bad google map has limited data supplies over the International geographical data… Well, it is still in beta after all.

  2. I didn’t come up with the idea… But it is awfully cool.

As for non-US locations, it’s hit-or-miss even in Canada. The west side of Calgary has some low-res (landsat?) imaging, while the central and east side, going out into farmland, has high-res imaging.

SpaceImaging.com has a bunch of images of global locations as well, like the Vatican, which you won’t see on maps.google.com

  3. NASA World Wind looks nice, but only works if you’re willing to subject yourself to Windows… I don’t have anything running Windows within 20 feet of my office.
