I hope more bike riders in Calgary will get behind your efforts and help turn things around. As an ex-Calgarian who now lives in Montreal, I must say that my new home town is an example of just how quickly the situation can change. Within the last 3 or 4 years, we’ve seen a new major east-west dedicated bike lane built, hundreds of kilometres of shared bike lanes on major arteries introduced, and, of course, the amazing Bixi system. But it wasn’t always like this. Not so long ago, Montreal seemed as hostile to cyclists as Calgary. There’s still a long way to go in terms of awareness, both on the part of drivers sharing the road, but also in terms of encouraging cyclists to obey the traffic rules. But there’s no doubt we’re getting there. Good luck in making Calgary bike-friendly. It can be done!
