I’m going to Utah!

My travel for the 2007 Open Education conference in Logan, Utah was approved. I’ve never been to Open Education, but it sounds like an amazing event. And, to top it off, I get to present with Jim, hang out with Brian and Scott, and meet David in person.

I still need to figure out the logistics – there aren’t any direct flights from Calgary to Logan, so I guess I’ll fly to Salt Lake City and hitchhike the rest of the way.

Unfortunately, I need to leave on the last day of the conference because of family obligations. I’m hoping I can find a flight that means I won’t miss much of the conference.

Of course, this means that I need to buckle down and do some actual writing and work on the material and presentation…

I was given the choice between 2007 Open Content and EDUCAUSE in Seattle. It was a hard choice. Maybe I’ll go to EDUCAUSE 2008? I’ve never been to one of those, either.

  1. Congrats. It’ll be nice to meet you. Lots of folks from the OCW Consortium (including myself) will be making the pilgrimage from Salt Lake to Logan, so there are plenty of ride shares available. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll see if I can connect you…

  2. D’Arcy,

It’s a no-brainer. Open Education is the way better conference. I’m not sure if I’m going this year, but if so I’ll echo Steve’s comments about hooking up to provide transportation.

  3. Thanks. I’m looking forward to it! Hopefully, there will be a travel/logistics section on the COSL conference site to help us out of towners figure out how to get in/out, and where to stay.

  4. Check out Delta for flights first — they have a direct flight from Calgary to SLC that is really cheap — the cheapest I’ve seen actually.

  5. @Sharlene – yeah, I’m looking at Delta from YYC to Salt Lake. There are only 2 flights per day, though – either godawful early, or landing at 6pm. Bizarre. Either that, or fly Air Canada/United and have to transfer in Denver to make it a 5-9 hour travel. I thought Salt Lake was a bit of a hub, why transfer in Denver? Bizarre…

  6. Have a great time … I have to go the Educause this year. Would have been good to hang out. Make sure you blog the conference!

  7. Fantastic news!

The shuttles between SLC airport and Logan are plentiful and inexpensive, if you don’t have a ride buddy. We should coordinate for accommodations… it would be fun to have all the Northern Voice illuminati near one another.
