I finally got a chance to scrub my bike’s drivetrain with actual liquid water. Lots of grit and grime came off, revealing some pretty severe wear and tear. A new chain and cassette are in order, but it’ll wait until later this spring…

I took the bike apart to give it a good scrub this afternoon, to make sure the last of the winter grit is gone so it doesn’t wear components down prematurely. Winter grit is evil to bikes. Evil.

clean drivetrain

it was warm enough to give the bike a good scrub this afternoon – with actual LIQUID WATER – removing some of the gunk that accumulates in nooks and crannies when riding in the winter. much better. wasn’t too concerned about the mud on the frame, but the drivetrain is pretty clean. WD-40 removed a LOT of rust, followed by a round of chain cleaner, then drying, and a bit of fresh oil. Runs nice and smoothly now 🙂
