they sounded like seagulls, but looked like terns or something. I can’t seem to remember squat from my zoology undergrad days. I’ll just call them “birds” and be done with it.
There were many ponds along my route, but these birds – hundreds of them – were only found on this one.
1200km
I hit 1200km while I was on the short path beside VRRI, between the research park and main campus.
iced
the canyonero, covered with snow and ice after yesterday’s spring storm. the roads are covered with a thick layer of ice this morning, which means I left the bike at home to take the bus. yay.
scenic route
I had to stop here to de-ice my bike. The ice was several mm thick all over the cables, gears, chain, pedals, tires, spokes, me, my shoes, my glasses, my helmet, handlebars, hands… I was down to 1 gear, and no brakes. But I made it home 🙂
1000km
As I was riding along the top of the Bowmont Natural Pathway area in Silver Springs, I passed 1000km ridden in 2009. Not a bad place for a milestone – this valley is going to green very quickly.
The shot I wanted to use for the 1000km photo wound up being saved by the camera as a corrupt file. Doh. Good thing I had another…
biding time
the snow (!) should melt today, and things will turn green quickly. the crocuseses along Bowmont got a head start by popping out before this last (?) snowfall. Within 48 hours, the valley will begin turning lush green. Spring is here, it just doesn’t look springish at the moment…

already +7˚C at 7:30am. the snow’s melting fast – won’t be long before spring’s here for reals.
