I had to walk through this section. Didn’t want to risk riding on the road here, with cars slipping all over the place.
I eventually gave up on walking through the drifts and rode on the ice road. Studded tires are pretty amazing.
grass pathway
the narrow dirt pathway connecting Silver Springs and Varsity Estates is nearly overgrown by grasses. the blades were thick with dew this morning.
snowride
we got a touch of white stuff overnight, and it continued throughout the morning. it actually accumulated anywhere from an inch or two, to nearly 6 inches in spots. this stretch of road was only a couple of inches, but it was covering some fun slush-ice from before. fun ride 🙂

I’d read the book in November 2008, having received it as a gift – before hearing about the movie (I only heard about the movie from the back cover of the book itself).
I read the book while on a caribbean cruise. the juxtaposition of the postapocalyptic bleak desolation with tropical warmth was surreal, and intensified the feeling of the book.
Amazing book. As a father, it was one of the scariest things I’ve ever read. What would you do for your child?
