This is the middle of a big, multi-year construction project that will eventually result in a ring road around the city, and 2 major interchanges within 1km of each other here. The primary entrance to my community is being rerouted, as it would be directly in the middle of these two interchanges. I can’t wait until I can stop living in a construction zone…
Heart Creek Trail
Late summer in the Rockies, as the leaves start to turn colours in time for autumn. This photograph was taken from the top of a bluff overlooking the waterfall at the end of the Heart Creek Trail – maybe 250 feet above the waterfall below – after scrambling up a path with Evan.

Crowds of people line up along Lake Louise to take in the scenery. All parking lots were stuffed, but most people didn’t make the hike up to the tea house.
Grotto Canyon
We went for a hike up the Grotto Canyon Trail, to see if we could find the petroglyphs and to explore an area we’d surprisingly never been to before. The hike was an adventure – we wound up making our own path for about a kilometer up the side of the mountain before returning to the creek to follow it up to the falls. It’s completely unmarked, and all paths look like equally valid options, including what were apparently (in hindsight) wildlife paths… Good hike!

The Norman family went for a hike up the Grassi Lakes Trail, just south of Canmore. It’s a really nice and easy hike, in some spectacular mountain scenery.
Banff Timelapse
There's a webcam on the top of Sulphur Mountain in Banff. It's an HD webcam – the first I've seen – and it's running 24/7/365. I've been running a script to grab every image for the last week (they only update every 5 minutes, so it's not that much data), and I periodically convert the stills into a timelapse movie.
I just took a look at the timelapse for November 29, which was a pretty nice day here in Calgary. Turns out it was nice and clear in Banff as well. One thing that keeps surprising me (even though I've lived here all my life) is just how much darkness we get. I've trimmed the timelapse to just contain daylight hours, since well over half of the movie would have been black. Come ON Dec. 21…

I'll process and post a week's worth (or so) when I get the chance. The hardest part of the process is removing frames that get corrupted on download, as they bork the conversion process.
